How Long Does Glass Installation Take in NJ? A Realistic Timeline by Project Type

Published October 26, 2026

One of the first questions we hear is simple: how long will this take? The honest answer depends on what you are having made. A custom shower door, a mirror wall, and a storefront each move at a different pace, and so do projects that need a permit. This guide gives you realistic timelines by project type, explains what causes delays, and lists the questions to ask any installer before you schedule.

The Basic Process

Most custom glass projects follow the same four steps, and knowing them makes every timeline easier to read:

  1. Free consultation. You call or send a request, and we reply within about 24 hours.
  2. On-site measurement. We visit, measure the space precisely, and talk through options and pricing. This usually happens the same week.
  3. Custom fabrication. Your glass is built to spec in our own shop and inspected before it leaves. Most projects are ready in one to two weeks.
  4. Installation. Many installations take a single day, and we walk through the finished work with you before we call the job complete.

The fabrication step is where timelines vary most, because the glass is cut and built for your exact opening rather than pulled off a shelf.

Shower Door Installation Timeline

From first measurement to a finished enclosure, the full process for a shower door usually takes one to two weeks. Your glass is custom fabricated, typically ready within one to two weeks of measurement, and installation itself usually takes a single day.

The step that most often adds time is a bathroom that is not ready. We measure the finished opening, so if tile or fixtures are still being installed, the measurement has to wait. Plan your shower door order for after the tile work is done. See our custom shower doors page for the styles we install.

Mirror Installation Timeline

Most residential mirror installations are completed in a single visit. A bathroom vanity mirror or a full-length mirror is cut to size, then mounted with hardware rated for its weight.

Larger jobs take longer. A gym or studio mirror wall has many panels and a bigger mounting surface, so it may take more than one visit depending on the number of panels. If you are planning one, our guide to custom mirrors for gyms and studios explains what to expect. See our mirrors page for the full range.

Commercial Storefront Installation Timeline

Most commercial projects are ready for installation within one to two weeks of measurement, depending on scope. A single storefront door or window is quicker than a full storefront system with framing, glazing, and weatherproofing.

On commercial jobs, installation crews work around your business hours when possible to keep disruption low. Emergency glass replacement moves much faster, because the first goal is securing the space, then replacing the glass. Learn more on our commercial storefronts page.

Window Replacement Timeline

A standard residential window replacement is often finished in a single day. Every window is built to your exact frame dimensions, so there is a short fabrication period between measurement and installation. Larger commercial projects and custom fabrication may take longer, and we confirm the timeline at your estimate. See our windows and doors page.

Custom Glass Tabletops and Shelves Timeline

For tabletops, shelves, and desk protectors, turnaround depends on the size, the glass type, and our current shop volume. We give you a specific timeline when you request your quote, because a small shelf and a large conference tabletop with beveled edges are very different jobs. You can find details on our tabletops and shelves page.

What Causes Delays

Most delays come from three places, and all three are things you can plan around.

Permit approvals

Some commercial glass work, especially new storefront systems, curtain walls, and structural glass railings, often requires a permit and has to meet New Jersey building code requirements. Permit review happens on the town's schedule, not ours. If your project needs one, ask about it at the start so it does not stall the job later.

Custom fabrication lead times

Custom glass is made to order. Thicker glass, special finishes, tempered glass, and unusual shapes all take fabrication time. Because we fabricate in our own shop, we control that timeline directly instead of waiting on an outside supplier.

Site readiness

A job can only start when the space is ready. Unfinished tile, an opening that is still changing, furniture in the way, or access problems can all push an installation back. The more finished the site is when we measure, the more accurate the glass and the faster the install.

How to Plan Your Project Around the Timeline

  • Measure last. Schedule your measurement after tile, fixtures, or framing are final.
  • Order early for deadlines. If you have a move-in date, a grand opening, or a renovation deadline, tell us when you request your quote.
  • Ask about permits up front. For commercial work, find out early whether your project needs one.
  • Keep the site clear. Clear the area around the opening before installation day.
  • Be reachable. A quick answer to a question during fabrication keeps the schedule moving.

Questions to Ask Your Installer Before Scheduling

  • How long will fabrication take for my specific project?
  • Is the glass fabricated in your own shop or outsourced?
  • Will a permit be needed, and who handles it?
  • How long will the installation take on site?
  • What do you need from me before you can measure?
  • What happens if the glass does not fit on the first try?
